Représentations cognitives opérées par les langues

The article discusses problems concerning the cognitive function of language that is relations between language and thought and between language and cultures. In the beginning there is a question if the diversity of languages entails the diversity of cognitive representations. In this respect the author presents the opinion of anti-antirelativism that there exist cognitive invariants of language activity which are semantic-cognitive primitives being defined by the author as abstract operators with formal proprieties forming the basis of language constructions. The proposed model of applicative and cognitive grammar emphasis the role of primitives which give the framework of language as well as the influence of context on an interpretation of cognitive architecture underlying language which is of prime importance when thinking about the process of translation.

O modelo cognitivo de análise textual e a tradução

The aim of this article is to describe a cognitive model for text analysis proposed by E. Tabakowska, as well as its implications for translation theory and practice. The model uses the aspects of conventional imagery in cognitive grammar (perspective, prominence, ground, iconicity, etc.) to evaluate the fit between a translation with the original text. The author tries to illustrate the importance of scene construal in translation practice by analyzing a Portuguese translation of one of the W. Szymborska’s works Terrorysta, on patrzy. This presentation of a cognitive approach to translation theory is complete with a brief sketch of the main assumptions of K. Hejwowsky’s cognitive communicative theory of translation. A secondary aim is to promote the Polish school of translation studies.

Le metafore della nozione di dubbio nella lingua italiana

The following paper aims at presenting the metaphorical conceptualization of dubbio in the cognitive approach. In basis of the gathered linguistic corpus, which constitutes of information provided by internet sites, the researches evidence the conceptualization of dubbio by transferring some of its aspects to the world of senses. The results demonstrate the complex and coherent cognitive model that describes the concept of dubbio as an entity directly perceptible by means of five physical senses. The dubbio is metaphorized as an actual object, perceptible thanks to the visual, acoustic, tactile, gustatory and olfactory sensibility.

Sur la représentation linguistique de la femme en français et en polonais

The authors of the article attempted to present the stereotypical image of woman in French and Polish. On the basis of the analysis of the linguistic corpus including two thousand proverbs, idiomatic expressions and metaphors that can be found in various linguistic dictionaries, the authors arrived at the conclusion that in both French and Polish:
- the cognitive model of woman comprises three basic profiles (physical aspect, character and intellect traits, social roles),
- the metaphoric representation of woman employs items belonging to the women’s domain (home, kitchen), the men’s domain (car, gun), the world of animals (goat, goose, horse) and the imaginary world (goddess, nymph, mermaid),
- the stereotypes of women are usually negative, only those concerning mother are deprived of any disparaging elements.

Sobre el tiempo en filosofía, física y lingüística

The aim of this paper is to describe the phenomenon of time perspective in philosophy and physics and its influence on the linguistics representation. One’s preference for certain consideration of the time is influenced by many factors. There are three ways to look at the world: the philosophical, the physical and the experiential. The author´s basic idea is that the interference among the scientific theories and the real experience of the world has created a conceptual vision of the time shared by all members of the European culture. Even though, this conceptual vision is not always equivalent to the linguistic one represented in different European languages, the differences are not significant. Theoretical instrument applied is the cultural linguistics with a special emphasis put on the cognitive grammar. For the verification of some universal properties and uses of analyzed forms appropriate Polish constructions were been used.

Corpo, spazio, movimento, nella concettualizzazione della meditazione nella lingua italiana

This article aims to analyze the concept of meditation (meditazione) in the Italian language, with special emphasis on the role of body, movement and space in the conceptualization process. The research presented is based on the following theories: Idealized Cognitive Models by G. Lakof f (1987) and thematic proto-roles by D.R. Dowty (1991). Three basic cognitive models for meditation have been extracted as part of the analysis: the metaphor of journey (viaggio), container (posto chiuso) and water (acqua). These models sprout from Kinesthetic Image Schemas of: source — path — goal, up — down, front — back, and inside — outside. I also trace the directions of the metaphoric movement of the meditating individual both during the very meditation process and as a shift in consciousness level occurs, depending on the cognitive model researched, and the thematic role of the meditating individual. In order to demonstrate the current view of meditation in Italian, the examples constituting the analyzed language content were culled from selected web pages available between 2007 and 2008.

The article discusses connections between concepts of foreign language teaching and the development of linguistic models of textual units bigger than one phrase. It contains a synthesis of the 20,h c. models of text and discourse with some special attention paid to the issue of coherence. Still, the main part of the article is devoted to a description of the evolution of contemporary methods used in foreign language teaching, which occurred under the influence of cognitive linguistics.

Quelques remarques sur la constitution de l’objet d’études de la linguistique textuelle – dès grammaires de texte à un modèle cognitif de discours

The aim of the article is to describe the evolution of the research subject the linguistics of a text used to deal with starting from the 1960s. The very description covers the period from text grammars formulated under the influence of generative-transformational grammar to cognitive discourse models developing contemporarily. What illustrates this latest research trend is the conception of a discourse as a multidimensional object constituting information, ontological, axiological, functional, and expression structures, and genre convention the author has been developing since 1990s (E. Miczka, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2002).

Humor gráfico como herramienta de crítica sociopolítica: aplicación de la TGHV al análisis de las viñetas de prensa

The present paper aims to comment on some of the cognitive mechanisms involved in the creation and interpretation of political cartoons and to explore the possibilities of their description using the General Theory of Verbal Humor (Attardo, Raskin, 1991; Attardo, 1997, 2008, 2017). Firstly, the characteristics of press cartoons as a multimodal and humorous discourse genre are exposed. Afterwards, taking into account the assumption that the GTVH provides a flexible theoretical perspective applicable to the study of graphic humor, attention is paid to the main analytical tools of the aforementioned theory. The paper also discusses a recent genre-specific model for the understanding of political cartoons, proposed as a new approach for the study of their humorous messages and critical stances (Agüero Guerra, 2016). Finally — the above mentioned method is illustrated by applying it to the multimodal analysis of the examples of two Spanish press cartoons, which have been extracted from digital newspapers and dedicated to current socio-political issues.

Immagine linguistica di immigrante e immigrazione

The following paper aims at presenting the conceptualization of immigrate and immigrazione in the cognitive approach. In basis of the gathered linguistic corpus, which constitutes of publicity texts provided by three biggest newspapers Il Corriere della Sera, La Stampa, La Repubblica. The researches evidence these concepts are replaced by synonyms from three semantic views and six metaphorical conceptualization. The results demonstrate the model of lingustic image of these concepts.
