PEER REVIEW

Peer review process

The Editorial Board proceeds to the reviewing process if the manuscript meets the following criteria: the text does not exceed 50,000 characters (in some cases the editors do make exceptions from this rule) and includes keywords in Polish and English (5), an abstract in Polish at the first page (5-6 verses), an affiliation note (university, faculty, institute, or school followed by an e-mail address), and a concise biographical note.

Each article is sent to two independent reviewers from Poland and/or abroad who do not belong to the Editorial Board, the academic institution of the author, or the academic institution that publishes it.

All reviews are double-blind: they protect the identities of both parties (reviewers and authors do not know each other’s identities) and this anonymity is preserved during the publishing process. The Editors guarantee that the manuscript is deprived of all data that might help identify the authors, be it directly or indirectly. As we do believe, the anonymity of the authors prevents us from being affected by any prejudice held by the reviewer, whereas the recommendation is based on the submissions themselves and not on the reputation of their authors (especially in cases of the well-respected scholars).

Such data as full name or affiliation, and any fragment that might help disclose the identity of the author are temporarily hidden before the reviewing process.

Each article is given an individual number that allows the Editors to identify it.

Should an author be the editor as well, their role in the process is ceded on another member of the Editorial Board (the Deputy Editor-in-Chief or the Editor of the Issue).

The list of the reviewers is accepted by the Editorial Committee of the University of Silesia Press.

The reviewers are asked to submit their anonymous comments in the reviewer’s forms. Each form should contain conclusions that state clearly whether the reviewed text is accepted without further revisions, accepted after minor revisions, or rejected altogether.

The final decision of publishing or rejecting the paper is made by the Editor-in-Chief, who consults the other members of the Editorial Board, including the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and the head of the Academic Board beforehand. The author, accepting the terms of publishing their text in Narrations of the Shoah, consents to publishing the submission on-line as well, even though print remains the primary medium of our journal.

The editor forwards to the authors the anonymous reviews and the decision whether their text is recommended to being published (without or after revisions) or rejected. The author is expected to respond to the reviews in a printed form which might be downloaded from our site, and to include all revisions that have been suggested by the editor.

The author submits the revised manuscript along with the author’s form to the secretary (the Author’s form is available at: https://wydawnictwo.us.edu.pl/note/1991).

The Editorial Board publishes the complete list of reviewers on the website of the journal and in the next published volume.
