PEER REVIEW PROCESS

1. Sending an article for publication is understood as giving consent to following the procedure described below.
2. The editor-in-chief, after consulting theme editors, qualifies an article within the scope of the magazine’s profile for review, and a decision on publication is made on the basis of written opinions of reviewers.
3. The editor-in-chief chooses appropriate reviewers. While choosing them, he may ask for help from theme editors or heads of academic units cooperating with the faculty of theology at the University of Silesia. Articles that present results of empirical research are submitted for review by a statistics editor.
4. Each article is reviewed by two experts in a given field employed at the University of Silesia with no professional or personal connections with the author. Reviewers – all independent from each other – are chosen among experts with an academic title or a post-doctorate degree or equivalent qualifications should they be employed in foreign institutions. If a review calls for an exceptionally narrow field of knowledge, it is possible to use an expert with a doctoral degree.
5. Reviews are written free of charge (based on conditions stipulated in separate agreements between the faculty of the Theology Office and the heads of academic units cooperating with the faculty) or in return for payment (based on a specific task contract).
6. The procedure observes the rule of confidence and mutual anonymity in line with the requirements of the so called double blind review. The editor-in-chief provides authors only with the content of a review, namely a part including a rationale for publication, while all the materials related to the procedure including personal data are available exclusively for the editorial team. A list of reviewers is published on an annual basis in a paper edition of the magazine and on its website.
7. The above mentioned elements of the reviewing procedure are in line with the guidelines of the Ethics in Science Team in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education presented in Good practices in review procedures in science, Warsaw 2011.
