“Średniowiecze Polskie i Powszechne” (Middle Ages in Poland and Worldwide) is an academic journal published at the Institute of History, University of Silesia. The first issue, released in 1999, was edited by prof. dr hab. Idzi Panic. Beginning with issue 2, published in 2000, prof. dr hab. Jerzy Sperka has become a co-editor of the journal. In 2011, dr hab. Bożena Czwojdrak, prof. UŚ became another co-editor. Since 2007, “Średniowiecze Polskie i Powszechne” has been published annually. In 2009 “Średniowiecze Polskie i Powszechne” obtained the status of a serial publication, and consequently, the formatting of the titles was slightly modified (capital letters and inverted commas were introduced) and a new numbering of issues was introduced in order to comply with the requirements of the ISSN National Center, located in the National Library of Poland in Warsaw. Thus, the first number provided after the title refers to the issue of the new serial publication while the number placed in brackets includes also the issues published when the journal was a multi-volume publication. With time, the formula of the journal has been developed and now, apart from articles, it also publishes review papers and reviews.
The journal is present on the list of scientific journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Presently, a paper published in the journal receives 70 points.
The journal has been indexed in the European Research Index in Humanities.
