Endlessly Serotonin or Eucharist? Why the Moderns should relearn sacrifice

Abstract

In relation to the theme of the present issue, this article attempts to show that sacrifice is at the heart of Michel Houellebecq’s Serotonin on an individual, as well as on a collective level. As always ex negativo, meaning the protagonist fails in sacrificing the Son on the cross, Houellebecq shows that the anamnesis of mortality could redeem man individually and also lead to a more social, fair, and sustainable economy on a political level.
