ABOUT ONE OF THE VARIANTS OF STAGING GOGOL’S REVIZOR Summary

The production of the play The Government Inspector (Revizor) by Vsevolod Meyerhold is one of the most original theatrical interpretation of a Gogol’s work. Special attention of the audience and critics to the performance, which opening night was on the 9th of December 1926, can be explained by the interest towards the innovative approach of the director, as well as by the desire to solve the problem about the degree of conformity between the interpretation and Gogol’s intentions. Specifics of perception of a Meyerhold’s production by the contemporaries are seen not only through the notes of the disputes or numerous reviews, also through the responses found in personal letters. The article examines the letters written by a young poet Nikolay Gronskij to Marina Cvetaeva. The discussed letters reflect the point of view of one of the representatives of a young generation of the Russian emigration.

Rewizor wystawiony przez Wsiewołoda Meyerholda w roku 1926 do dziś stanowi jedną z najbardziej oryginalnych realizacji utworu Gogola. Zainteresowanie widzów i krytyków wiąże się zarówno z nowatorskimi decyzjami reżysera, jak i próbą interpretacji zbieżności i odmienności jego interpretacji z zamysłem Gogola. Specyfikę tych reakcji ujawniają nie tylko materiały dyskusji i liczne recenzje, lecz także opinie zawarte w prywatnej ko-respondencji. W artykule zaprezentowane zostały poglądy młodego pokolenia rosyjskich emigrantów, których przedstawicielem jest poeta Nikołaj Gronski dzielący się uwagami na temat spektaklu w listach do Mariny Cwietajewej.
