Selected Demographic Issues in Poland as a Communication Challenge

Abstract

The article examines public communication on demographic issues in Poland in the context of population ageing and persistently low fertility. It argues that demography operates in the public sphere not only as a set of statistical indicators but also as a subject of governmental, expert, and media narratives that shape the perception of related issues. The study discusses dominant interpretative frames (framing), their social consequences, and the role of alarmist metaphors in influencing public opinion. Findings indicate that alarmist and stigmatizing narratives reinforce ageism, polarization, and cognitive paralysis, whereas inclusive, evidence-based, and evaluated communication strengthens policy legitimacy and civic participation.
