The article attempts to indicate the sources used by Józef Goj upon creating "Description of a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land", as well as a collection of "Pilgrim Songs Composed from Seeing and Visiting (...) Holy Places". Published at the beginning of the 20th century, they testify to the wealth of inspiration of the uneducated author. The pilgrim from Upper Silesia, probably serving as the song leader, the so-called Śpiewok although rooted in folk culture, tried to transcend its boundaries, referring to traditional old man's songs, religious texts, guidebooks, and a work that is now a literary classic - "Quo Vadis" by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The wealth of sources was accompanied by a variety of ways of referring to them: quoting larger fragments or quoting specific sentences, phrases or expressions, paraphrasing, as well as drawing inspiration from the language and style of the original.
