The results obtained by the Polish research group indicate that participation in classes related to stuttering leads to an improvement in attitudes towards stuttering, as well as an increase in knowledge about this disorder and an overall increase in tolerance. Comparative results for both groups—Polish and British—showed that English students demonstrate more positive attitudes toward stuttering and have greater knowledge about the disorder. Polish students, on the other hand, rated their knowledge of the disorder higher and scored higher on general tolerance. In both countries, reading a text about stuttering before completing the questionnaire had a positive effect on attitudes toward the disorder. Knowing someone who stutters was found to be associated with higher scores in terms of attitudes, general tolerance, and assessment of one's own knowledge about stuttering. From these results, the researchers concluded that attitudes toward stuttering can be changed by contact with a person who stutters, both in person and through video recordings. The study demonstrated the need for further, more in-depth analysis of attitudes toward various human characteristics, such as stuttering. Disseminating research findings on attitudes toward stuttering is an important part of raising awareness about this disorder in society.
