Abstract

The text contains an interpretation of Sergei Lebedev's “Oblivion” (2010). The main problem of the book is the intergenerational trauma from the Stalinist era. Its mechanisms have been described in reference to the psychoanalytic tradition. The post-catastrophic image of the Russian Far North presented in the novel was also interpreted. It has been compared to descriptions of radical evil and juxtaposed with Giorgio Agamben's homo sacer. The writings of Jacques Derrida were also used, which turned out to be helpful in describing the phenomenon of splitting traumatic "Self", the present and death, as well as the politics of memory and living with the specters of dead people.
