Dans l’argumentation théologique, à côté de l’argumentation biblique souvent on joint c’est à dire l’argument patristique qui est construit avec les citations des eminents Pères et des écrivains d’Église. Cet argument a trouvé l’application déjà dans les premiers siècles du christianisme.
Les nombreux documents d’église sont l’argument que les écrivains anciens jusqu’aujourd’hui jouissent de la grande consideration. Un tel document c’est l’encyclique du pape Jean Paul II de Saint-Esprit Dominum et vivificantem.
Dans la richesse de la verité sur le Saint-Esprit que les siècles passés nous ont apporté, en première place on voit l’acquis de l’époque patristique. Jean Paul II accentue cela en se referant aux nombreux fragments des oevres des Pères d’Église, qui se montrent sous la forme de la citation concrète ou seulement comme une mention. Plusieurs fois lesannotation informent que dans le texte de l’encyclique il y a la pensée d’ancien écrivain d’Église. Le pape prend les textes des Pères en conformite avec le contexte ou sous ce contexte pour mieux illustrer le thème choisi par soi-même.
L’essai de la comparaison de la théologie de Saint-Esprit qui est presenté par Jean Paul II dans son encyclique avec l’instruction des Pères d’Église qui concerne la Troisième Personne Dieu, c’est un problème très intéressant. La conception du pape n’epuise pas de problematique pneumatologique qui a été très riches dans l’époque patristique. Les ressemblances concernent des problèmes choisis par le pape et aussi en partie leurs redactions. Les différences sont avant tout: la terminologie différente ou les proposition nouvelles.
On peut estimer le document du pape particulierment inspiré par l’enseigne d’Église ancienne et par cela même on peut voir dans ce document la place de cet argument dans la Tradition.
