Im Jahre 1871 wurde vom Pfarrer Norbert Bonczyk die erste Sankt-Aloisius-Gesellschaft in Oberschlesien gegründet, die die männliche Jugend aus dem Arbeitermilieu vereinigte, und die zur Verbreitung des nationalen Wissens, die Erziehung seiner Mitglieder auf der Grundlage der katholischen Moral sowie die Sicherung einer angemessenen Zerstreuung nach der Arbeit anstrebte. Eines der Mittel dieses Ziel zu erreichen war die Veranstaltung von Laien-Vorstellungen, in den ersten Jahren hauptsächlich von der Beuthener Gesellschaft und Ende der 80er Jahre von den immer zahlreicher entstehenden Aloisius-Gesellschaften in ganz Oberschlesien, bis zu ihrer Liquidierung durch Kardinal Georg Kopp im August 1897. Einige von ihnen waren allerdings trotzdem weiter tätig, am längsten die Beuthener Gesellschaft, die bis 1921 wirkte und somit kann dieses Datum als Abschlussjahr des gesamten Vorganges angenommen werden. In den Jahren 1874—1921 sind von den oberschlesischen Aloisius Gesellschaften insgesamt 278 Aufführungen in 40 Orten veranstaltet worden. Sie bildeten einen bedeutenden Teil der oberschlesischen Volkstheater Bewegung die von K. Miarka im Jahre 1870 in Königshütte initiiert wurde und von Anfang an einen authentisch polnischen und volktümlichen, den Arbeitern eigenen, Charakter trug. Unter den lebhaftesten Zentren des Aloisius Theaters: Beuthen, Deutsch-Piekar, Siemianowitz, Zabrze erfreute sich Rybnik in den Jahren 1892—1895 des grössten Ruhmes, wegen der vom Pfarrer Miczek zusammen mit der lokalen Sankt-Aloisius-Gesellschaft organisierten Passionspiele. Ausser den religiösen Stücken spielten die Mitglieder der Aloisius-Gesellschaften das Repertoire schlesischer Volks dramatiker: Karol Miarka, Juliusz Ligoń und Piotr Kołodziej. Auf 105 Titel der von ihnen aufgeführten Stücke fallen etwa 20% auf das heimische Schaffen. Sie griffen auch nach religiösen und patriotischen Stücken aus anderen polnischsprachigen Regionen, die dadurch in Oberschlesien bekannt wurden und das Repertoire der oberschlesischen Ensembles bereicherten. Die Anziehungskraft der Theatertätigkeit der Aloisius-Gesellschaften unterstützte in erheblichen Masse die Verbreitung des Laientheaters unter der oberschlesischen Gesellschaft.
