Das Referat stellt zunächst im allgemeinen Umriss die Geschichte verschiedener Formen des Sammelns der Kunstwerke dar, vom Altertum bis zur Neuzeit, das ist bis zur Gründung des Museums im gegenwärtigen Wortsinn. Es schildert auch in kurzen Aufklärungen die Geschichte des kirchlichen Museums und vor allem das Datum der Gründung des Diözesanmuseum in Polen, bis zu der Gründung des Diözesanmuseums in Katowice. Ferner begründet der Verfasser die theologische und seelsorgerische Bedeutung des kirchlichen Museums. Kritisch verhält er sich zu der Begriffsbestimmung des Museums, angegeben durch den Internationalen Museenrat. Diese Begriffsbestimmung muss in Bezug auf das kirchliche Museum modifiziert werden, da es ebenfalls religiöse Zwecke hat und sogar konkrete, katechetisch-seelsorgerische. Es sammelt nicht nur Kunstwerke, sondern ebenfalls materielle Glaubensbeweise. Es soll also der geistigen und moralischen Entwicklung der Gläubigen dienen. Gerade in dieser Hinsicht unterscheiden sich die kirchlichen Museen prinzipiell von den staatlichen. Diese Aufgaben des Museums werden erst jetzt in Polen wahrgenommen und sukzessiv realisiert (als Beispiel stellt der Verfasser das Programm eines Arbeitsjahres im Museum des Erzbistums Warszawa dar).
Ferner teilte der Verfasser einige praktische Bemerkungen über die Arbeit im Diözesanmuseum mit. Dieses Museum soll das religiöse Bewusstsein der Besucher bilden, ebenso in der allgemeineren Perspektive und zwar zum Beispiel der ökumenischen (durch die Sammlung der christlichen Kunst und sogar der religiösen nicht christlichen), durch die Verbindung des plastischen Werkes mit anderen Begriffen der Kunst und des Glaubens, wie die Musik und das lebendige Wort der religiösen Literatur.
