Überall dort, wo die Eucharistie verrichtet wird, versammeln sich neben dem, die eucharistie verrichtenden Bischof bzw. Priester, Männer und Jun-gen, die verschiedenartige Dienste verrichten. Die, den Dienst beim Altar verrichtenden, werden populär Ministranten oder Messdiner gennant. Die Näherung an den Altar selbst und das Stehen um ihn herum macht noch aus nieman-dem einen wahren Jünger Christi, der ein jeder Ministrant sein soll. Die zu Messdienern auserwählten müssen erst erzogen werden, anders gesagt, sie müssen zum verrichten des Dienstes beim Altar im Geiste der Liturgie geformt werden. Solch eine liturgische Formation kann erfolgen, durch Überweisung den Jungen bestimmter Kenntnisse über die Liturgie, also was in dieser Litugie sichtbar ist, sowie durch das Vertraut werden mit der erlösenden Wirkung Gottes dieser Liturgie, was nicht sichtbar ist. Der ganze Formationsprozess muss diese zwei Aspekte in Erwägung haben. Eine Formation, die sich zum Er-lernen gewisser Verhaltungen beim Altar beschränk, führt zur übertriebenen Festhaltung an rituellen Formen und kann den Eindruck einer heiligen Dressur machen.
In der Diözese Katowice werden konkrete Massnahmen vorgenommen, die zur komplexen Formung der Altardienstgemeinschaft im Geiste der Liturgie führen sollen. Eine fundamentale Formationsmassnahme sind die wöchentli-chen Zusammenkünfte, die aus der „Ministrantenstunde” und dem „Appell der Woche” bestehen. Die Problematik der Ministrantenstunden ist in sechs Formationsjahre aufgeteilt. Eine andere Formationsmassnahme sind die dekanalen Einkehrttage, die zweimal im Jahr abgehalten werden: im Advent bzw. um Weihnachten und am Ende des Schuljahres. Einen erprobten Platz im Forformationsprozess hat die Altardienstwallfahrt nach Piekary, Pszów und Skoczów. Eine sehr wichtige, zur tiefgründigen Formation führende Massnahme, sind die Exerzitien, geführt in den Ferien, nach dem auf den Hauptetappen der Evangelisation gegrundeten Programm und gelenkt auf das Erlebnis. Die Exerzitien dauern neun Tage. Eine andere wichtige Massnahme, die die religiösen Kenntnisse der Ministranten vertiefen soll, sind die Schulungen der Lektoren, Psalteristen und Kantoren, die in den einzelnen Dekanaten jede zwei bzw. drei Jahre abgehalten werden. Ausserdem dienen dem Werk der Formation der Ministrantengemeinschaften in den Pfarrgemeinden die Feste der Schutzheiligen sowie andere gelegentliche Zusammenkünfte. Sehr behilflich in der Formation der Ministranten ist der kontakt des Betreuers mit den Eltern der Jungen. Für die Formation der Ministranten ist der Seelsorger ver-antwortlich. Von der Eifrigkeit und den Kenntnissen des Seelsorgers hängt in grossem Masse das Formationsniveau der ganzen Altardienstgemeinschaft ab.
