This study is devoted to the analysis of the statistical data of the National Police Headquarters for 2010–2020 regarding suicide attacks committed by children in Poland. Two research methods were used in the study. The leading method was the analysis of statistical data. The method of analyzing selected literature on the subject was also used. The aim was, above all, to attempt to characterize the dynamics of the phenomenon of suicide attacks among children in Poland in 2010–2020 in the light of police statistical data. The considerations were based on the analysis of data on age groups, the reasons for the suicide attacks in the form of school problems and the category referred to as “information about learning / work – student”. These data were analyzed in terms of the number of non-fatal suicide attacks and those in which they occurred.

Afterwards, some of the research about bullying in schools has been described. The next part is focused on a juvenile, criminal and disciplinary responsibility of the mentioned persons. In the final part, the authors depicted solutions which could stave off the featured problem and propose de lege ferenda postulates. The conclusions highlight the multidimensionality of the childrens’ suicides’ problem.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among children and adolescents in Poland, after car accidents. The national law and the health care system are not prepared for it. In the article, based on my own research from 2019–2021, I try to show the main problems of specialized care in the situation of suicidal crisis of children in Warsaw. However, the difficulties are a good introduction to public discussion and changes in the field of intervention assistance. In this article I present conclusions from the research and recommendations for actions to support the system. It was created on the basis of the opinions of specialists working with children and adolescents in Warsaw and parents of children in psychical crisis.

The author has presented the main causes of parental alienation in Poland, including the personal cause connected with one parent’s dysfunction or parental immaturity. Such a parent, an alienator, frequently with the help of his/her family or other parties, manipulates the child’s whole mental structure, above all his/her emotions, feelings, needs and fears in order to portray the other parent as somewhat of a “threat” to the child, which distorts in a harmful way the child’s psychological and emotional world. Apart from the most frequently used psychological manipulation and with the same view in mind, the alienating parent restricts or prevents any contact between the child and the other parent and all the family of the latter so that he/she can become “the main world” in the child’s life, ensuring him/her “the safest and happiest life”, which instills in the child both subordination and dependence on the alienating parent. Such an influence results in disturbances of Polish children and adolescents’ emotional and psychological development, oftentimes leading to self-harm, especially in the case of older children, and in extreme cases to an attempted suicide on the part of either the child or the rejected parent. Also the Polish system of family law supports the phenomenon of parental alienation, which has been confirmed by an analysis of the provisions of law, as well as by the family court itself in one of its rulings.

The assessment of the phenomenon of an individual’s suicide is sometimes ambivalent. Losing a loved one is an extremely difficult experience. On the one hand, it can be perceived as fear of life, cowardice or reluctance to face everyday problems, on the other hand, it can be interpreted as a specific act of heroism or compassion, triggering empathy. Being able to read certain verbal and non-verbal cues gives the opportunity to support someone who is considering committing suicide. In this article, I will answer the question whether Jan Komasa’s film Sala samobójców adequately presents the problem of suicidal behavior among adolescents.
