Sémantique lexicale, structures grammaticales et phraséologie contrastive

Lexical Semantics, Grammatical Structures and Contrastive Phraseology

Volume 16 of Neophilologica brings together a set of contributions devoted to the analysis of lexical, syntactic and discourse structures in natural languages, particularly French and Spanish. The studies combine perspectives from theoretical linguistics, contrastive linguistics, lexicography and applied research related to translation and language teaching.

Lexical description and object-oriented modelling

Several contributions explore the modelling of lexical structures and object classes.

In Parties du corps et approche orientée objets, Anna Grigowicz analyses French body-part nouns as a class of objects characterized by specific combinatorial properties, showing how this approach can contribute to the structuring of lexical databases.

In Description lexicographique fondée sur la modification conceptuelle : conception “modifié–modifieur”, Beata Śmigielska and Anna Grigowicz examine conceptual modification structures and discuss their relevance for lexicographic description.

This line of research is further developed by Beata Śmigielska in Approche orientée objets et hiérarchie linguistique de concepts. Questions d’application, which addresses conceptual hierarchies in lexical modelling.

Similarly, Aleksandra Żłobińska-Nowak, in L’approche orientée objets dans l’espace, applies the object-oriented approach to the description of spatial expressions and locative nouns.

Verbal systems and grammatical analysis

Another group of studies examines verbal morphology and aspectual structures.

In Les verbes français à préfixe co-, Mikołaj Nkollo analyses the semantic and syntactic properties of French verbs formed with the prefix co-.

In La riqueza de una lengua – diferencias semánticas entre las construcciones con tres verbos aspectuales españoles, Joanna Wilk-Racięska investigates semantic differences between several Spanish aspectual constructions.

The temporal and aspectual system of French is analysed by Ewa Ciszewska in two contributions: Futur antérieur – temps du futur ou temps du passé ? et L’inchoatif et les moyens de son expression en françai

Discourse structure and language teaching

The issue also includes a study devoted to discourse structure and language pedagogy.

In Un modèle cognitif de structures discursives – son application à l’enseignement / l’apprentissage de langues étrangères, Ewa Miczka proposes a cognitive model of discourse organization and discusses its implications for foreign language teaching.

Semantic interpretation and machine translation

The relationship between linguistic description and computational applications is examined by Izabella Thomas in Vers un modèle d’interprétation et de désambiguïsation sémantique des adjectifs dans des groupes nominaux (appliqué à la traduction automatique franco-polonaise), which proposes a model for interpreting adjectives in noun phrases for machine translation.

Contrastive phraseology and interlingual equivalence

The volume concludes with a study devoted to contrastive phraseology.

In Traitement contrastif des séquences figées (SF) et problème de leur équivalence interlinguale, Monika Sułkowska analyses the theoretical and methodological challenges involved in comparing fixed expressions across languages. The study distinguishes several types of equivalence — semantic, formal, functional and referential — and shows that equivalence between phraseological units should be understood as a gradual and multidimensional phenomenon rather than a simple structural correspondence.

The article also reviews major methodological approaches in contrastive phraseology and highlights the importance of integrating lexical, syntactic and conceptual levels of analysis.

Taken together, the contributions in this volume highlight the richness of research at the intersection of lexical semantics, grammatical analysis and contrastive phraseology. By combining theoretical reflection with empirical analysis and applied perspectives, the volume illustrates the productive dialogue between fundamental linguistics, translation studies and language pedagogy.
