Il problema dell’elaborazione è la concezione dell’evangelizzazione e della catechesi secondo il sant’Eugenio de Mazenod – il Fondatore della Congregazione dei Missionari di Maria Immacolata – nella prospettiva di nuova evangelizzazione e nuova catechesi. Questo tema si presenta come molto importante soprattutto a causa di due ragioni. Prima è questa che fin d’oggi la Congregazione svolge il suo lavoro missionario, secondo il carisma del Fondatore, nel 68 paesi del mondo in tutti i continenti; seconda, che il mondo e l’umanità alla fine del XX secolo e alla soglia del terzo millennio dopo Cristo sembra tanto assomigliare i tempi in cui visse Eugenio de Mazenod: le agitazioni sociali e le guerre a causa del’ingiustizia dentro della società nella quale pochi possiedono tutti i beni invece la maggioranza subisce una miseria. Pure la situazione della Chiesa d’oggi presenta tante somiglianze ai suoi tempi: i segni della santità, della fedeltà e della speranza, ma d’altra parte – il peccato, le dottrine false e l’infedeltà nella fede. Tra tutti questi avvenimenti Dio non cessa di parlare a l’uomo per mezzo della rivelazione di Gesù Cristo. Lui, che è il ieri, l’oggi, lo stesso in secoli, in tutta la storia tempestosa dell’uomo fa sempre presente la salvezza e l’annuncio della Buona Novella per mezzo della Chiesa i nella Chiesa. In questa Chiesa chiama i sceglie dei suoi collaboratori nell’opera della salvezza e nell’annuncio del Vangelo. Uno di questi fu – nella dimensione storica – e sempre rimane nel suo carisma che si realizza nel ministero della Congregazione il suo Fondatore – sant’Eugenio de Mazenod. Lui scelse come il programma della sua vita le parole del profeta Isaia, pronunciate da Gesù: „Evangelizare pauperibus misit me”, realizzandole in „far conoscere chi è il Cristo” per mezzo dell’evangelizzazione e della catechesi.
