Abstract

In his encyclical Laudato si’ Pope Francis expresses his conviction that in order to face the ecological issue of caring for the Earth, it is necessary to join forces, to act communally. Community action for ecology can be seen in the initiatives of the Catholic Focolare Movement, is taken up by the Movement in both scientific reflection and education. The research objective of the article is to show two areas: the first relates to EcoOne, an international network of scientists and practitioners undertaking systematic, interdisciplinary reflection on
ecology, while the second concerns environmental education and, in particular, the specific didactic means of the so-called “Earth Cube”. On the basis of an analysis of the theoretical assumptions of both initiatives and their applications, it is shown that the dialogue between faith and science that EcoOne conducts is part of the essence of integral ecology. The didactics of the Earth Cube awaken in children a love for what surrounds them, thus it touches all dimensions of human life with its message. The forms of FM involvement described above mark a path leading to the discovery of ever new possibilities for creatively responding to the challenges of the LS encyclical.
