Abstract

The article presents the results of a survey conducted among Polish language teachers (n = 120) on the methods, possibilities, and barriers to implementing environmental humanities in Polish schools. The analysis of the collected material shows that the surveyed Polish language teachers feel responsible for shaping the pro-climate attitudes of their students, and Polish language lessons can strengthen students’ agency in times of the climate crisis.

PhD, is a linguist, an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Linguistics at University of Silesia in Katowice, a psychologist, a psychotherapist in the training process, a voice emission trainer and a relaxation and breathing techniques trainer. She has authored and co-authored nearly 70 publications, co-edited four volumes of essay collections and co-authored Czas na… Język i dydaktyka w badaniach młodych naukowców [It’s time for… Language and didactics in research by young scientists] (with Diana Jagodzińska, Maria Wacławek and Aleksandra Zok-Smoła). Since 2008, she has been a supervisor of the Polish Research Club
“Bakałarz”. She is a member of the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS), the International Association for Research in L1 Education (ARLE), the Polish Association for Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the Scientific Section of Psychotherapy of the Polish Psychiatric Association, and the Committee of Linguistics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her research interests include clinical and developmental psychology, psychotherapy (psychodynamic, behavioural, CBT, DBT, MBSR), motivating dialogue, voice emission and hygiene (psychosocial correlates of the quality of spoken voice emission), and didactics (language teaching, university teaching).

Magdalena Ochwat, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Literary Studies at University of Silesia in Katowice, associated with the University of Silesia Interdisciplinary Centre for Research on Humanistic Education. Her research interests focus on Polish language education, the use of literary reportage in education, and the social responsibility of school readings. She is interested in the challenges of the 21st century: global crises, migration, climate change and multiculturalism. She is the Editor-in-chief of the journal Z Teorii i Praktyki Dydaktycznej Języka Polskiego [Theory and Practice of Polish Language Teaching],
the program coordinator for Polish philology teachers at the University of Polish Studies as part of the POWER project, and a participant in the School of Ecopoetics.
