Abstract

The letters exchanged between Abp. Józef Gawlina and Fr. Kazimierz Kwaśny are stored in the Archives of the Polish Catholic Mission in Paris.  This collection consists of over one hundred and fifty letters from the years 1949–1963, arranged chronologically, in Polish, French and Italian. Apart from a few handwritten letters, most are typewritten. The value of this correspondence is evidenced by the fact that the Guardian of Polish Emigration in his correspondence to the rector in Paris not only raises the issues of organizing pastoral care among Poles in France, but also familiarizes him with the relations and dependencies existing in Rome. Reading these letters allows us to understand how important it was in the Vatican to maintain the rules of courtesy, choose the right vocabulary or polite forms and expressions. The aim of this article is to analyze the style of work of Archbishop Józef Gawlina based on the materials quoted.
