Abstract

In the article, the author attempts at juxtaposing a theory of animal rights defenders – primarily the political theory of animal rights put forward by the authors of Zoopolis, Sue Donaldson and Will Kymlicka – with the practices in the field of dog sports and the methods of working with service dogs. She analyses Donaldson and Kymicka’s particular postulates and presents ways in which both the animal rights advocates and dog sports afficionados approach the subject of new citizenship. Her conclusions seem to suggest that those two groups hold rather contradictory views on domesticated animals.

Bio Statement (e.g., department and rank)

Olga Chrzan – an instrumentalist and a graduate of the Grzegorz Fitelberg 2nd degree State Music School in Chorzów, she subsequently graduated from cultural studies with specialty in theatre studies at the Philological Faculty, University of Silesia in Katowice, and from Postgraduate Journalism Studies thereat. In 2015, she defended her diploma work at the Post-graduate School of Children’s and Youth Theatre Directing, the Wrocław branch of the Ludwik Solski State Theatrical Academy in Krakow. In the year 2018 she started her interdisciplinary doctoral studies at the Philological Faculty, University of Silesia in Katowice - programme: Humanities without Borders. Since 2004 she has been invested in dog sports, whereby she has
