Justyna Szumacher 

Justyna Szumacher – graduate of the Gdańsk University of Technology. Traveller and passionate shark diver. Author of the blog www.rekiny.eu. She has been exploring the mysteries of the underwater world for 25 years. She has dived with various species of sharks (including white and tiger sharks, hammerheads, blunthead, whale and blacktip sharks). She observes them in their natural habitat and shares facts about their lives at various thematic meetings. She fights myths and stereotypes about these animals. Her goal is to “disenchant” the bad image of the shark from the movie Jaws. She has conducted 190 meetings for children, young people and adults in schools and kindergartens, libraries, community centres and other cultural and scientific institutions. She is writing a children’s book on the life of sharks. Speaker, among others, at the 23rd National Meeting of Travellers, Sailors and Mountaineers (Kolosy), the conference ‘Girls on the Wave’ organised by the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk (2023) and during the Shark Week organised by the Gdynia Aquarium (2023). As a shark expert she is invited to various radio and TV programmes (TVN, TV Tetka Tczew, TV Proart Poznań, TV TTM Wejherowo, Radio Tczew and Malbork, ESKA). Justyna Tymieniecka-Suchanek 

Justyna Tymieniecka-Suchanek – dr hab., prof. of the University of Silesia (associate pro­fessor); works at the Institute of Literary Studies at the University of Silesia and at the Department of Anthropozoology at the University of Warsaw. Author of numerous publications, founder and head of the precursor research unit Animal Studies Laboratory – Third Culture, affiliated with the Faculty of Philology of the University of Silesia (operating in 2014–2019); originator, founder and editor-in-chief of the journal “Zoophilologica. Polish Journal of Animal Studies”; originator and organiser of scientific conferences in the series “Czło­wiek – Inny/Obcy Byt” [Man – Other/Other Being]. She is currently pursuing a research project “Prawosławna teologia zwierząt w eseistyce Tatiany Goriczewej” [Orthodox Theology of Animals in Tatiana Goricheva’s Essays] within the framework of the National Centre of Science “PRELUDIUM BIS-2” (no. 2020/39/O/HS2/02968).
