Zoophilologica. Polish Journal of Animal Studies provides free access to its content in accordance with the principle that making research and its results freely available affects global exchange of knowledge.

In the course of its development, the  journal has changed its license from the more restrictive one, which was in force at the time of its creation, i.e. CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, to the most open CC BY-SA 4.0. The first four issues (1/2015, 2/2016, 3/2017, 4/2018) were issued under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, and from the fifth issue on (5/2019) the journal has been published under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

As part of the unification of open access to all issues of the journal on the OJS website, the University of Silesia Press has enabled access to previous issues under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, thus promoting the idea of open learning.
