Abstract

In the paper, the current condition of the humanities is confronted with the crisis of foundations in mathematics at the turn of the 20th century. This reveals the difference between mathematical knowledge and the humanities, especially that of the structuralist variant with its formalist aspirations. The birth and decay of structuralism involve a simultaneous transformation of the research field, which henceforth becomes culture, and of the cognitive instrumentarium. As a result, it turns out that not only is there no proper object of humanistic research, but also no truly humanistic language. Humanistic knowledge – called extensive knowledge, in contrast to mathematical intensive knowledge – is doomed to meta-languages

Mateusz Falkowski, Ph.D., graduate of MISH at the University of Warsaw, completed both his M.A. and his doctorate at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Warsaw. His research interests span contemporary philosophy, philosophy of technology, theory of knowledge, and philosophy of art. He has been actively involved in various research and artistic projects, including his contribution to the project of gravitational cinema (as its co-creator). From 2005 to 2014, he was part of the Warsaw cultural initiative "Orgia Myśli" [Orgy of Thought]. Currently, he serves as a lecturer at the School of Form in Poznań and is the President of the Board of the Barbara Skarga Foundation. His publications include: Kryteria sprzedajnej manifestacji [Criteria for a Marketable Manifestation] (with Marek Sobczyk, Warsaw, 2013), O maszynach. T. 1. Wiek XVII a filozofia techniki [On Machines: Vol. 1. The 17th Century and the Philosophy of Technology] (Warsaw, 2014), Twórca i perspektywy [The Creator and the Perspectives] (Warsaw, 2014), Manifesty kina grawitacyjnego [Manifestos of Gravitational Cinema] (with Marek Sobczyk, Warsaw, 2017), as well as Kinoka. Kino włoskie [Kinoka. Italian Cinema] (with Marek Sobczyk, Warsaw, 2021). His work in gravitational cinema and his involvement in the "Orgy of Thought" initiative highlight his interdisciplinary approach, blending philosophy with creative and cultural endeavors.
