The translations of books from Bulgarian into Polish and from Polish into Bulgarian in 2007—2013

The subject of discussion in this article is translation of Bulgarian books in Poland and Polish books in Bulgaria in the period 2007—2013. In recent years relatively a large number of translations of Bulgarian literature are published in Poland. Collection includes modern novels, short story volumes and anthologies, poetry books. Despite the unfavorable situation, which expressed in the general economic and cultural situation, pro‑Western orientation, limiting the presence of “small” literatures, Bulgarian literature each year attend the Polish publishing market. The successful reception of Polish literature in Bulgaria in the last seven years due to: high quality translations, adequate reflection in the field of literary criticism and literary studies, the financial support of the Polish Institute in Sofia. The result of favorable circumstances have been a large number of translations, which consist: the literary classics and selection of contemporary and recent Polish literature.

Croatian Literature and its Polish Ambassadors. Comments on the Bibliography of Translations of Croatian Literature in Poland (2007—2013)

The article based on the bibliography of translations of Croatian literature in Poland from 2007 to 2013 discusses the role of translators and editors in the crosscultural and interliterature communication. During that period several texts` compilations and anthologies of Croatian literature (mostly the latest) has been published in Poland. The mentioned books are the results of the Polish‑Croatian cooperation of writers, translators as well as researchers (e.g. [1] the selection of Miro Gavran’s works or [2] the project entitled Kroatywni that involved Croatian and Polish researchers) or, on the contrary, they are result of independent work of one translator (e.g. the anthology of Croatian poetry by G. Łatuszyński).
Investigating diverse anthologies of Croatian literature printed in Poland and Croatia from 2007 till 2013 the question of the literary canon and the difference between the idea of the literature in the original and target culture are risen.

Polish literature in Croatian translation from 2007 to 2012

This paper presents translation of Polish literature in Croatia, published from 2007 to 2012, either as independent books, or as publications in literary magazines. Besides qualitative and quantitative data for the mentioned period, the paper explains the context and reasons outside literature that have an influence on translation and publishing activity. This period, compared to ones before, is described as diverse and rich with Polish translations of authors and genres that were not covered before. It is concluded that Polish literature is well‑presented to Croatian readers.

„We are close and we know more and more about each other”. A commentary to the bibliography for the years 2007—2013

The discussed here bibliography for the years 2007—2013 is without any doubt one of the most important publications on the subject of translations into Czech and Polish languages. The retrospective bibliography is a very good source for bibliographical information about Polish and Czech literature translation in the years 2007—2013, as well as for the Polish and Czech writing in general. The publication includes a bibliography which makes an attempt to present, if it’s possible, a full picture of the book and periodical production, which were published on the territories of Poland and the Czech Republic. The translations bibliography constitutes a general material for an overview of the development of the Czech and Polish prose, poetry and drama in the recent years. It can be said that we are richer for a book, in which the author was able to elaborate on the development of the translating activity in Poland and the Czech Republic. This work proves to be valuable not only for the highly specialized experts in the fields of philology and literary history, who have now an access to a comprehensive overview of the Czech and Polish literature in translation, but also is a great introductory material for a wide circle of people interested in the culture of the Polish and Czech nations. In this lies the main importance of the work The Slavic Literature Translations, which is a very interesting work in Poland.

The Bibliography of  Literary Translations 2007—2013 (Poland — Macedonia). A Commentary

In the study an attention is drawn to the problems concerning the cultural and artistic representativeness of the choices of the translated literary texts, that are made by actors of both sides of the linguistic communities: Polish and Macedonian. An overview of such choices connects the relationships with social backgrounds of the cultural elites and with the continuity of the both literary traditions. The comparison has proved that the Macedonian translations, starting from the 70s of the 20th century, systematically present important Polish literary texts, reflecting our national canon. On the other hand, Polish translators treat their contacts with the contemporary Macedonian poetry, prose and drama incidentally, that results in ad hoc motivations, both institutional and personal.

Translations of Macedonian literature in Poland and Polish one in Macedonia in 2007—2013

This article presents an analysis of translations of Polish literature in Macedonia and the Macedonian one published in Poland in 2007—2013. It contains book editions as well as translations published in magazines. The author tries to answer the question why do the translators choose for translation the books of certain writers. The conclusion is that the most common selection criterion is honoring the publication of a literary award. After analyzing the author notes that over the years the number of translations of Polish literature in Macedonia and Macedonian one in Poland increases.

Translations of Serbian literature in the period from 2007 to 2013

There were translated about thirty books of Serbian literature in the period from 2007 to 2013, most of them were books of poetry. There were little number of translations in the literary magazines and journals. The number of translations is quite big but the reception of Serbian literature and culture was weak. The wars which accompanied the decay of the Second Yugoslavia has had big negative influence on the reception of Serbian literature and culture. Nowadays, after the fall of communism, literary contacts depend on initiative of individuals, the institution of translation literature has gone through the process of privatization.

Slovak literature in Poland in years 2007—2013

The author of the article describes in detail the Slovak literature which was translated in Poland in the years 2007—2013. In her article she also deals with contemporary Polish publishers market which publishes translations of „small”, „peripheral” literatures. She analyzes translation literature with view of its entry into a new literary context.

Polish Literature in Slovak translations after 2007

Marta Buczek — the author of the article Polish Literature in Slovak translations after 2007 describes in detail the Polish literature which was translated in Slovakia in the years 2007—2013. In her article she also deals with contemporary Slovak publishers market which publishes translations of Polish literature, Slovak publishers and Slovak translators. She analyzes translation literature with view of its entry into a new literary context.

Slovenian literature translations published in Poland between 2007—2013 — the commentary

The commentary constitues a presentation of Slovenian literature translations published in Poland between 2007—2013. In mentioned period of time the translation of prose (among others written by Jančar, Virk, Žabot, Mazzini, Vojnovic, Möderndorfer, Frančič, Novak) and Slovenian poetry (Šalamun, Čučnik, Kosovel, Frančič, Osojnik, Kušar) appeared both as independent book publications as well as texts presented in periodicals and regular press. Also publications printed as anthology and releases which were a result of translation workshops were developed. In the commentary the author’s concern focuses mainly on books publications due to the fact that they are shaping the literary awareness of secondary culture. It is comforting that presently the increasing tendency for publishing translations of Slovenian literature can be observed. There is a growing need to strengthen and complement the image of Slovenian culture in the Polish reader’s consciousness, a kind of “cultural stereotype” which the reading community assimilate along with the growth of another texts. From the perspective of reception the most important issue seems to be that translations of Slovenian authors (besides Jančar, Virk and Čučnik) were published by independent, local and niche publishing houses. It is clearly seen that creating a coherent cultural‑publishing strategy and providing appropriate popularizing strategy would contribute to enriching, creative dialogue between Slovenian and Polish literature.
