The present author outlines the mainstream approaches to quality of life, which include subjective, objective, normative, axio-affective, as well as holistic perspectives; and recognizes a considerable need for an interdisciplinary investigation into the aforementioned concept in pedagogy. In the study, the author emphasizes the fact that quality of life should be examined in terms of its level, indicators as well as determinants. She also demonstrates that research regarding the concept of life quality plays a significant role in the field of pedagogy. The current author emphasizes significant developmental and educational functions of life quality, pointing to the fact that it has been identified as a major factor affecting an individual’s perception and vision of life, as well as a motivating force that encourages the person to accomplish his or her objectives. Furthermore, in her study, the author demonstrates a variety of approaches to life quality applied in different branches of pedagogy, and suggests that integrated research should be undertaken to investigate the aforementioned concept, which would facilitate the process of developing theories of young generation education.

Music plays important part in adolescents’ life. Young people tend to identify with the artists and their lifestyle; they also build friendships and social groups based on music preferences as crucial criterion. Teenagers consider music as their passion, and they use it not only for fun, but also to release tension and express emotions. Current research shows some diagnostic potential of music preferences. Teachers and other care givers are not always aware of this fact and tend to avoid or criticize music genres that they do not enjoy or understand. This article provides with overview of the newest research results regarding music preferences and its relation to personality and substance abuse vulnerability. It discusses the findings of the studies presented and concludes that the better we know the music of young people the closer to their world experiences we can get.

Technical potential of the modern medicine make it possible to save lives of many patients after brain injury due to some accident, sudden arrest of blood circulation, cerebral stroke, or other causes. Nevertheless, a certain number of survivors stay in the state of limbo „between life and death”, i.e. in a vegetative state. Such a patient is in a state of partial arousal, but, as it is believed, he/she is not in true awareness. The diagnosis of a vegetative state (VS) is given by a doctor and since that moment the patient is not expected to show a noticeable improvement in his/her health. If such a state lasts up till a year, the diagnosis is classified as a persistent vegetative state; if it lasts longer, the diagnosis is a permanent vegetative state (PVS). Working with a patient in coma is extremely difficult and laborious. The purpose of the following discussion is to review the range of psychopedagogical actions available for the children and youth staying in the Medical Care Centre in Toruń and see how the actions improve their quality of life. The article analyses a number of actions undertaken by a team of pedagogists and psychologists targeting a group of children and youth in a vegetative state. The objectives of the actions are also discussed together with the improvements observed in the sphere of quality of life of those patients.

The results obtained by the Polish research group indicate that participation in classes related to stuttering leads to an improvement in attitudes towards stuttering, as well as an increase in knowledge about this disorder and an overall increase in tolerance. Comparative results for both groups—Polish and British—showed that English students demonstrate more positive attitudes toward stuttering and have greater knowledge about the disorder. Polish students, on the other hand, rated their knowledge of the disorder higher and scored higher on general tolerance. In both countries, reading a text about stuttering before completing the questionnaire had a positive effect on attitudes toward the disorder. Knowing someone who stutters was found to be associated with higher scores in terms of attitudes, general tolerance, and assessment of one's own knowledge about stuttering. From these results, the researchers concluded that attitudes toward stuttering can be changed by contact with a person who stutters, both in person and through video recordings. The study demonstrated the need for further, more in-depth analysis of attitudes toward various human characteristics, such as stuttering. Disseminating research findings on attitudes toward stuttering is an important part of raising awareness about this disorder in society.

From a cultural perspective, cognition is distributed through time, among person and a culturally organized environment, and among persons in socially organized settings. In the first part of this paper interaction is analysed as a socio-epistemological phenomena. This part provided the foundation for analyses made in this text - the nature of teachers’ interaction within school was discussed, with an emphasis on the fact that teachers do not have to rely solely on themselves and their own experimental learning. Some models of supervision and evaluation are presented as well as opportunities to observe and discuss expertise. Without such opportunities, teachers are left with trial and error - the main technique for developing expertise. The potential of a social network for teachers learning is also emphasised.

Undoubtedly, the Internet has become an indispensible element of daily life. E. Aboujaoude observes that to a greater or lesser extent, these days we are all addicted, if not in clinical terms, then in functional and practical ones. At the same time among the plethora of sources concerning addictions to the Internet, it is certainly worth paying attention to one other, relatively common and relevant phenomenon in virtual reality, namely the „social exhibitionism.” Aside from the proportions, characteristics, and conditions of the phenomenon that altogether can be referred to as purposeful self-creation, the article proceeds to illustrate possible dangers coming from thoughtless acts of publicizing countless amount of pictures (of children in particular), personal data, private information, etc. Moreover, such acts do not remain without influence to the broadly understood children’s and teenagers’ health and safety, but they can provoke educational as well as socio-pedagogical reflection.

Being alone can be everybody’s experience. It is often accompanied by a reduction in the quality of life, which was also assumed in our study. In order to scrutinize this relationship a group of youth with mild mental retardation was examined. The methods employed for the study were a diagnostic survey and a survey technique. Three research instruments were used: a questionnaire to study loneliness among children and adolescents - The Syracuse-Amsterdam- Groningen Sociametric Scale), the Satisfaction With Life Scale questionnaire and the Life Orientation Test-Revised.
