The article presents a selected number of relations occurring between the schooling needs of knowledge society and the system of education as well as between education and pedagogy. A praxeological-pedagogical model for communicative and educational activities is used as a tool in the analysis of the selected issues. The model indicates, among others, possibilities and conditions of acquiring and generating personalized knowledge, perceiving and experiencing values, shaping attitudes, competences and wisdom as the upper values in the global and endangered world.

In the paper a theoretical concept of the neurosciences and particularly, neurodidactics, based on the cognitivistics and involving the recent results of the human brain studies and connected with them a theory of thinking processes, have been presented. What was taken into account was a type of intelligence represented by a learner, an emotional intelligence creating in a didactic process the right psycho-emotional states, modality, and the shaped styles of learning. Practical implementation of the neurodidactics concept at all the levels of teaching in learning society can be an effective means against a weakness of the Polish school, reflecting in the results of the PIRLS and PISA tests, diagnosing the functional skills of the students.

The work focuses on the newest results of the empirical and theoretical research of the neuropedagogy and the neurodidactics. Neurodidactics appears as a “didactics of the 21st century”, because teaching and learning are treated by them from a point of view of the processes, that run over a human brain. Many aspects of neuropedagogy and neurodidactics are very interesting especially in the context of the effective learning. On the other hand one can remark, that both of the neurosciences introduced to a pedagogy do not ensure an affective learning, because it is not determined the neuronal factors only, but other factors too. It causes, that we should to carry out further empirical studies in this range.

The purpose of the text is to popularize education model based on the theory of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner. It also presents part of findings on the directional abilities diagnosis of pedagogy students and pupils an integrated early childhood education. Mission of this text is to show how we can support pupils development of abilities and interests through their participation in various projects, programs and educational initiatives.

The knowledge society needs a new education. The problem is systemic in nature. This implies taking interest in all components of the education philosophy of education system, selection of content, processes for the introduction of modern information and communication technologies. School buildings should be constructed as smart objects.

On the one hand, an issue of construction and transmission of knowledge about own past, and the other hand, an issue of resolving disputes concerning with the memory of the past are the challenges faced by the society based on knowledge. The contemporary school is an institution which plays one of the most important roles in this process. The authors’ discussions focus on Polish-Czech dispute about the memory of the past. They are interested in learners’ opinions from Český Těšín. The authors analyze their answers to the questions concerning the memory of the past in this text. The answers are provided by young Poles and Czechs learning in the high schools in the area of Český Těšín. The authors undertake the dilemma referring to the memory of the history as the essential element of humanistic education in schools from Zaolzie region. Issues concerned with school as a place of Polish-Czech reconciliation regardless of various interpretations will be analyzed as well.

This article concerns the issue of using, and general contacts, youth from rural areas of Silesia with stimulants, particularly alcohol, afterburners and drugs. The article presents the results of diagnostic tests its own, as well as requests for educational and preventive practices. The results show how the impact of the implemented strategy are insufficient.

The article contains information concerning the problem of Romany children’s education. Research, that has been used, was conducted at Primary School no. 36 in Ruda Śląska where the largest number of Romany children attend to. A vital role of a Romany assistant and a support teacher in Romany school children’s education has been emphasized.

This text is a result of the studies carried out over the question of children’s perception of visual messages that accounts for visual complementation and description of the contents of printed text. Reflections on the contemporary art of illustration and values of the visual images in the shape of book illustration constitute for the first part of the article. In the second, essential trends in pre-reader stage children’s preferences for the visual work/book illustration in terms of fields of implementation and the visual quality in the shape of abstractness, seen as the dominant of the imaging referred to the image plan is presented. The article ends with the final reflections directed towards the question of the quality and the value of children’s remarks.

The information society requires constant searching, learning, understanding and using knowledge from various fields. The role of the family and educational institutions is to prepare children to learn and gain knowledge from different sources by developing their selection, comprehension and internalization skills. That is why, from a young age, children are exposed to varied messages about the world, appropriate to their psychophysical development. The article outlines the methods of presenting information used in magazines for pre-school children and sets out to evaluate the possible use of those methods in kindergarten education.

The subject of a discussion included in this study is the musical talents seen as an important problem of modern education in the prism of the society of knowledge. The material outlines the specificity of training of artistically gifted child at school. The analysis of selected institutions and their educational opportunities for artistic and educational work was presented. An assessment of positive and negative feelings associated with children’s musical education was made. Proposals for educational activities useful in the educational work of teachers and caregivers were developed.

The article is a critical evaluation of the competences of integrated early childhood education students in teaching writing skills to children of early school age. It was assumed that the students’ knowledge and skills at evaluating written text on graphic, grammatical, semantic and pragmatic levels was a measure of this competence. Reflections on the linguistic aspects of a text and an inquiry into theoretical assumptions for teaching Polish philology to students pursuing master’s degree studies in integrated early childhood education provide the theoretical basis for the analyses performed.

The article discusses issues related to the Eco-Math Project carried out by Primary School No. 1 in Choszczno. This project is the result of the guidelines set up by the Comenius Programme, which was established by the European Parliament and the European Council. The article presents the objectives, strategy and partners of the project. It also outlines the adopted research methodology and describes the effects of implementing the project in terms of benefits for the teachers as well as students.

The subject of this paper is the Japanese abacus soroban. It contains shortened description of its structure and history. The paper presents the results of the research of foreign authors of the application of soroban in didactic practice. It shows the advantages coming out of its usage in mathematical education: cognitive development, improvement of numerical memory and concentration, growth of ability in the range of the application of basic arithmetic operations. Some risks coming out of the use of the abacus have not been omitted i.e., stiffening of the ways of executing the calculations or lack of inventiveness in solving problems. The paper presents the results of research of introduction of soroban for mathematical education into Polish schools. It discusses motivation of students to use this tool and the most common mistakes committed by them. It searches for the answer to what the most effective methods of teaching execution of calculations using soroban are. The text also includes the encouragement to undertake empirical research on wider scale to use soroban in Polish educational practice.

The program of activity constructed by means of using the three logical instruments of the Theory of Constrains, was settled as a result of the need of preparing pupils on primary school level to live in society and preparing them to do their social role as adult people. The results of the experiment claim that the Theory of Constraints unknown in Poland in the uprising and educational range, deserve deeper accomplishment, because of its efficacy and a great range of application (also in shaping social skills of primary pupils).

Computer games are now a common way of using leisure time, and therefore worth examining how much time young people devote to them. From the educational point of view it is important what kind of games young people play and what the functions of computer games they play in their lives. Content analysis of games available on the market shows that most of them (about 80—85%) engaged in acts of a player of extreme violence and cruelty. The increasing use of computer games has an impact on the psyche of the child. It is therefore essential question is what kind of games prevails among users of computer games? The article shows what kind of games they play adolescents and what are the differences in the preferences of games by girls and boys.

The paper presents fields and possibilities of information and communication technologies in building educational space. The short genetic outline of applying education informatics in Polish schools as well as changes of application and education strategies with use of multimedia were described in the paper. The selected psychological factors and cognitive preferences in educational actions were also shown in the paper.

The paper presents the author’s views on possibilities of applying educational media in the educational process. The author does not analyze the application of educational media but concentrates on the very issue of mechanisms which can be used in the structure of text, hypertext and network. The author also analyzes multimedia communiqués presented in the form of multimedia texts seen as the element of educational message.

The article presented issues concerning the impact of media on children and an analysis of the results of educational research. Conducted in primary schools studied were receiving long-term media coverage for children. Supported the conclusions drawn from scientific theses characteristics enabled the behavior of children aged 10–12 years in the face of intense media receive information.

The electronic media has intensively entered into youth’s daily lives becoming the main transmitter of knowledge and information, leading to new ways of communication that caused of creation of specific cyber language, which is a combination of acronyms, abbreviations and text characters that imitate emotion. Language existing in virtual communication is shorter and easier in spelling, but on the other hand, the forms of writing used by young people in communication via electronic media are often like a code than standard language, that is not necessarily clear to an outsider.

The article analyses the results of empirical studies and is an attempt to reflect on the need for media education in schools in the process of building a knowledge society. Opinions of school principals and young people from upper secondary schools in the Silesian Voivodship confirm the discrepancy in terms of willingness, opportunities and real implementation of media education. The search for the appropriate form of media education continues on the grounds of Polish and European education.

Due to obligatory IT (Information Technology) classes for pupils at I—III levels, some information competences are formed. They are based on knowledge, abilities, postures and habits connected with the use of ICT instruments. However, the level of pupils’ information competences is different (and) it becomes much more complicated during the education period. Pupils’ information competences and the teachers’ work with pupils on different information competence levels were carried out in one of the primary school in Bytom in September 2011.

The similarities and differences in the description of disabled persons reality result from the research focus of particular fields of pedagogy. They pertain most often to the scale of disability phenomena, as well as to the organization and quality of the process of the upbringing and education of children and youth. In the research of social pedagogues, we can observe a shift of focus from the disabled person to the barriers that person has to overcome and his/her living environment. The research of special needs pedagogues accentuates more the processes connected with the organization of educational experiences in the individual dimension (revalidation, rehabilitation, therapy, social rehabilitation and orthodidactics, incorporated into educational and didactic influence) and their social effects. Thus, special needs pedagogy investigates: mechanisms, phenomena, states connected with care, therapy, education and upbringing of persons deviating from norm. Both social and special needs pedagogues emphasize the importance of shaping social attitude towards disabled persons and the phenomena connected with disability, accentuating the need for directing the education process at generating the attitude of humanism, egalitarianism, democracy, cooperation, respect for human dignity, tolerance, sense of personal dignity and self-control — indispensable values in Europe today.

Preparing students for the teaching profession requires us to respect the complexity of educational contexts in which teachers perform their work. One of the most important areas teachers study during their university education is the family. Exploring this topic contributes to the broadening of students' professional knowledge in the light of various aspects: community, professional, and individual. This topic occupies a special place in preparing future teachers for integrative/inclusive education. The author presents certain theoretical foundations and empirical research results in relation to society: school/inclusive school — teacher, parent, pupil/student.

The text focuses on the development of phonological awareness and the possibilities of early detection (already in preschool) of symptoms of learning difficulties. The authors analyzed various types of exercises aimed at developing reading and writing skills.

Purpose of the article is to present the phenomenon of perception in general understanding and detailed discussion of the phenomenon of auditory perception. Article presents the results of research on auditory perception in preschool children in various age groups and presents conclusions useful for the education of children in kindergarten.

The article is the trial of presenting the inner school teachers’ training as one of the ways of becoming the special school “the learning organization” and applying the idea of distant implementation of changes. There will be presented not only the assumptions of this process understood as the intentional series of meetings oriented towards the identification and satisfying personal and group needs by the mutual learning but the teachers’ opinions as well regarding the process of inner school training in special schools.

In the modern penitentiary thought, the times when a penal institution was just a place of isolation and a building whose architecture testifies that criminals have been separated from the law abiding society are long gone. Resocialization is a process which aims to restore persons who break social and legal norms to social environment. The author emphasizes that resocialization work with inmates and creating perspectives for a better future may become an effective means of prevention of returning to crime.

The text analyzes the influence of civilizational development trends (including the process of globalization) at the beginning of the 21st century on education. The author describes globalization in its social, economic, ecological, and security aspects, emphasizing its multidimensional and complex nature. In the cultural aspect and the context of cultural identity, the text highlights the challenges posed by globalization to the development of an educated society. In the educational and research dimension, the author stresses the authenticity of the mission of Catholic universities in Europe, which should reflect, promote, and sustain the pursuit of truth and Christian values.

The main purpose of this article was to analyse the conditions created at the university to support auto-education in the perception of students of pedagogics of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Document analysis method was used in the study. The analysis and interpretation covered documents intentionally created — essays, i.e. written students’ expressions regarding subjects which are significant from the scientific perspective. The participants’ task was to express their opinion on the specific components of university activity, i.e. methods and forms of education, curriculum content, relation between the teacher and student, venue, time, financial and organisational conditions in terms of their significance for the course and level of students’ auto-education.

The main issue raised in this article is the problems of elderly persons from Upper Silesia. The author presents them in the context of the meaning of life of seniors in the knowledge-based society. Then, she analyses and evaluates it in the light of the output of gerontology and psychology of an adult. The results of her empirical research suggest the need for education of people in the middle age to prepare them for old age. Then, according to Grażyna Kempa, the next generation of seniors will be aware of their own needs in live actively engaged in education.
