Wstęp

The article comments on Milen Ruskov’s third novel Summit (The Heights / Възвишение, 2011) and its critical acclaim in Bulgaria. Set in 19th-century milieu, the revolutionary struggles and the novel’s unique language have been indicated by critics as its most outstanding aspects that provoke new debates on the national and linguistic identity of contemporary Bulgarians. At the same time the novel’s Polish translation by Magdalena Pytlak (Wzniesienie, 2017) poses other questions concerning the promotion of modern Bulgarian culture abroad, the translatability of Ruskov’s work and the translator’s strategies in terms of successfully “importing” Bulgarian literature into the Polish context.

The article gives a brief overview of translated Polish literature in Croatia in 2017 and considers the visibility of Polish poetry in a body of literary works translated after 1990, focusing on contemporary phenomena such as poetry in new media and the place it takes in the contemporary reception.

Presented article is a recapitulation of visible tendencies in both Polish and Czech publishing markets with regard to publications of literary translations of Czech literature in Poland and Polish literature in the Czech Republic in 2016 and 2017. It presents the most important literary translations in each language pair, pointing out leading publishers and the most active translators in this area. Finally, the author outlines general paths along which the Polish literature translations in the Czech Republic and vice versa develop.

This article is about the reception of Kapuściński’s book Another Day of Life which was translated and published in Macedonia in 2017. This text explains the reasons of the delayed translation of Kapuściński’s book and the social environment
surrounding its reception, as well as the reception of the reportage as a literary genre in Macedonia. Those are part of the reasons why this literary master has passed by almost unnoticed in this culture and his works are pushed aside from the main literary streams. The article also deals with translating problems concerning the alienation / otherness and the way foreign realities are transferred from Polish to Macedonian language.

This text deals with the anthologies of Serbian contemporary and newest poetry, which appeared in Poland in the last twenty-eight years. Four publications by four different authors and translators present the wealth of Serbian poetry composed by several generations of poets. Each of the anthologies presents a different image of Serbian poetry, thus showing its great diversity. Thanks to these publications, many names appeared in Poland for the first, yet not the last, time — as shown in the subsequent Bibliographies printed in the “Translation of Slavic Literatures”.

The author of this paper characterizes the Polish literature translated into the Slovak language over the last few years with particular focus on the year 2017. Three genres have been translated the most: literary reportage, detective novel, and fantasy literature. What is underscored is the function of these translations in the receiving (Slovak) culture and literature, as well as the reception of the translations by scholars and readers.

The aim of the article is to review the Slovenian literature translated into Polish in 2016 and 2017. The author of the article presents translations of Slovenian poetry, prose, books addressed to children, and drama. Some of the important publishers are indicated along with the most active translators, their probable motivations, and ways of obtaining funds for their publications. The author of the article is also interested in reception of traslated Slovenian literature in the target literary field.

The article deals with translation choices by Slovene translators from Polish literature in 2017, on the presumption that both literatures, that of source and that of the target language, perceive each other as peripheral in terms of Even-Zohar’s theory of literary polysystems. Nevertheless, as much as 14 Polish books of different genres were translated into Slovene language in 2017, among them novels, poetry, a play, and theological essays.
